SAMUEL PYNE, the former Mayor of Kumasi and an aspiring National Vice-Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the most appealing and easily marketable flagbearer aspirant for the party.
Speaking to this reporter, Mr. Pyne asserted that Dr. Bawumia’s character, demeanor, and high visibility as a former Vice President would make it easy for Ghanaians to vote for him in the upcoming 2028 presidential election, should he be selected as the NPP’s flagbearer on January 31, 2026.
Mr. Pyne noted that over the past 17 years, Dr. Bawumia has endeared himself to the Ghanaian public as a focused, hardworking individual with brilliant development ideas capable of economically transforming Ghana for the benefit of its citizens.
“Dr. Bawumia became the most visible Vice President in Ghana’s history. By virtue of his temperament and ideas, he won the hearts of the populace, and so marketing him again to the Ghanaian electorate would be significantly easier than marketing the other four contesting party members.”
Clarity of Thought
The former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Boss emphasized that Dr. Bawumia possesses a clear sense of the policies and ideas needed to turn the country’s economy around.
He further argued that even while serving as Vice President under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia was able to spearhead transformative visions such as Ghana’s mobile money interoperability and the Digitalisation agenda.
Mr. Pyne stated that the ability to conceive these two major policies, alongside initiatives like the electronic gate system at Kotoka International Airport and the drone health delivery system, makes Dr. Bawumia a credible person with whom to entrust the nation’s destiny.
“In the recent past, we witnessed many of our female citizens and other traders being robbed while travelling for business across the country because they carried physical cash. However, the narrative has changed since the introduction of mobile money interoperability, which allows funds to be loaded onto a phone and used for business wherever one is located or resident,” Mr. Pyne stressed.
Ambition
Regarding his own aspirations, Mr. Pyne stated that his personal ambition to contest for the NPP’s Vice-Chairperson position is to be able to provide intellectual support to both the Chairman and the flagbearer.
He noted that his intention is to unleash his many years of knowledge and experience to support the party’s leadership.
Mr. Pyne promised to assist in the NPP’s rebuilding efforts, from the grassroots level to the highest echelons.
“I am contesting to become a Vice Chairperson of the NPP so I can contribute my ideas, vision, and experiences to enhance the NPP’s governance style and achieve stronger organizational control,” Mr. Pyne concluded.
