Bawku peace talks start Tuesday in Manhyia

THE MUCH-anticipated Bawku peace talks will officially start at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

A reliable source at the famous palace has exclusively informed the DAILY GUIDE that the two factions from Bawku would arrive in Kumasi on Monday, April 28, 2025.

“The Manhyia Palace on Sunday morning sent two different sets of convoys of cars to Bawku to separately bring the two factions. They would return to Kumasi on Monday”, he said.

Upon arrival, they would rest in Kumasi, following their long journey from Bawku and visit the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday morning for the meeting to officially commence.

The source, who demanded anonymity, disclosed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who recently returned from a trip abroad, would personally supervise the meeting.

According to him, the intensive meeting would last throughout the week, pointing out that everything has been put in place for a smooth and successful meeting.

Tight Security

The source also disclosed that security in the Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asante Kingdom, has always been tight, but would be deepened further this week.

“I’m aware that security in this palace would be tightened further during the entire duration of this important meeting, which outcome is dear to Ghanaians”, he stated.

Otumfuo

As a reminder, Otumfuo, recently appealed to the factions in the Bawku crisis in public to remained calm, assuring them that plans were in the pipeline to resolve their differences.

Just recently, the Manhyia Palace also issued a press statement, where it announced that the Asantehene was ready and determined to mediate the Bawku crisis in Kumasi.

President Mahama

On his part, President Mahama during a recent public function in Accra, said the Asantehene was ready to mediate the Bawku crisis to ensure lasting peace in the volatile area.

He also appealed passionately to all stakeholders in the Bawku crisis to coorperate so as to make it possible for the Asante King to peacefully resolve their differences.
