Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama, has appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA) to take full charge of the three AstroTurfs within the Kumasi City.
By this, the former Roads and Highways Minister wants the city authorities to take management of the sports facilities at Bantama-Lebanon, Kokooase, Bohyen, and Ohwim to prolong their lifespan among other benefits.
The MP for Bantama made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Mayor of Kumasi, Mr Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, accompanied by assembly members from the Bantama Sub-Metro and others.
He used the occasion to congratulate the Mayor on his new role, assuring the Mayor of his readiness to assist, despite their political differences.
He further appealed to the Assembly to prioritize the construction of markets at Abrepo, Bohyen, and Ohwim to boost local economies.
On improving visibility at night, the legislator said he would be glad to see more streetlights functioning to enhance security.
In his response, the Mayor assured Mr Asenso-Boakye that management would assess the prevailing conditions and take steps to manage the various AstroTurfs.
With regards to the construction of markets, he stated that the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) would be used to finance markets and boreholes, as indicated in the Assembly’s Action Plan.
As part of plans to improve visibility at night, the Mayor said the Assembly has engaged Prefos Limited, an electrical company, to assess the lighting system in Kumasi and help provide solutions to lighting challenges.
He thanked the MP for Bantama for his visit, promising that he would use his office to prioritize the interests of Kumasi and Asanteman.
