The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has assured victims of the Amakom Market fire disaster of the government’s support.
The market, also known as Anlo Market, was gutted by a fire on January 26, razing an estimated 350 shops.
On Tuesday January 27, Dr. Amoakohene led a delegation to assess the damage and commiserate with victims, including traders who lost their livelihoods.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, with investigations ongoing.
The Minister advised traders not to keep explosive items in markets and developers to keep fire hydrants accessible.
He urged market leaders to work with city authorities to restore the market, suggesting they design a suitable layout.
Isaac Adjei victim of the fire and spokesperson for Traders Association of the market thanked the Minister and pledged to cooperate with authorities to restore the market to normalcy.
