The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Tuesday November 4, 2025.
Prior to the meeting, President Steinmeier cut the sod for the construction of a Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).
The Centre, funded by the German government, aims to provide training in green technologies and improve access to quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
During his visit to Kumasi, President Steinmeier also engaged with the Vice Chancellor, staff, and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), highlighting educational and scientific partnerships between Ghana and Germany.
The German President’s visit to the Manhyia Palace, noteworthy, underscores the strong historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Germany, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral relations in areas like trade, investment, technology, and development cooperation.
After a private meeting, the King will host his guest in another momentous durbar at the plush Silver Jubilee Hall where the two leaders will be treated to a grand cultural display, featuring traditional music, dance, and art, showcasing the rich heritage of the Asante Kingdom.
The durbar is expected to be a memorable occasion, further strengthening the bond between the Ghanaian and German governments.
The visit forms part of President Steinmeier’s three-day state visit to Ghana, aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
He met with President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra, discussing ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and development.
President Steinmeier is scheduled to depart Ghana on Tuesday evening.
