The 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool and King of Asantes, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, arrived in Suriname on November 24, 2025, for a three-day official visit.
He was warmly welcomed at the JAP International Airport by a high-level delegation, including H.E. André Misiekaba, Minister of Health, Welfare and Labour; Amb. Michel Kerpens, Senior Advisor to the Minister of BIS; and Members of the National Assembly Mr. Ebu Jones, Mrs. Annie Kersenhout-Sadi, and Ms. Tashana Lösche.
The Asantehene’s visit is aimed at fostering stronger diplomatic, cultural, and tourism ties between Suriname and Ghana.
Today, Otumfuo will be the special guest for Suriname’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in the country’s history.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and shared relations between Asanteman and Suriname.
Suriname gained independence from the Netherlands on November 25, 1975, and has been celebrating this day as its Independence Day ever since.
