Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC’s defender Henry Ansu scored an own goal in the 62nd minute, which eventually aided Bibiani GoldStars to beat his side 2-1 in the GALCA Top 4 opener at the University of Ghana-Legon stadium on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Ansu picked up a pass from his colleague at the right side of Kotoko’s defense without any provocation or pressure and aimed at his goalkeeper, but pass the ball to the unguarded goalpost.
The Porcupine Warriors’ forward opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but the lead was short-lived after GoldStars’ Samuel Atta Kumi scored through a spot kick in the 23rd minute of the match.
The Miners were tactically disciplined and played above themselves, ensuring they secured a win regardless of their opponents’ efforts to level the score, especially in the second half.
Despite tasting defeat in the opening game, Kotoko’s coach, Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey, is optimistic that his side will bounce back stronger and win in subsequent games in the pre-season competition.
