Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang has criticised government’s handling of the M-Pox outbreak in Ghana.
He described the various interventions as lukewarm and ill-informed.
Speaking to this reporter, Dr Agyemang said viral infections spread quickly and needed swift response to addressing same.
“Government has so far shown zero effective response to addressing the M-Pox outbreak and it is very worrying to say the least”, the MP stated.

So far, 200 people had been reported to have contracted the M-Pox virus, the Abuakwa South Legislator revealed.
He noted that out of the figure, one person had been confirmed dead.
Dr Agyemang therefore described the situation as very worrying, adding that the disease could soon become full blown outbreak.
“We need government to show proactive actions in tackling this disease which has so far affected 200 people with one dying out of same”, the Legislator appealed.
Remedial Measures:
The Abuakwa South MP proposed that government intensifies awareness creation measures for the populace.
This, he noted included the use of promotional items and advertisements to engender widespread awareness about the disease.
Dr Agyemang also asked government to begin intentional tracing and treatment modules across the country, where medical officers could treat at first hand those who have been affected by the viral disease.
“Combatting viral infections required an intentional approach including contact tracing and treatment on sight measures so that we could nip the disease in the bud”, the MP explained.
