Ashanti Regional Chairman Hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah pouparly called “COKA” says the rate at which galamsey is being undertaken in river bodies in Ashanti is alarming under the current NDC government.
According to him, the situation in some notable water bodies in Ashanti is very dire, adding that investigations show that the situation exacerbated immediately NDC took over the reins of government.
Buttressing his points with some collections from water bodies such as rivers Oda, Offin and Pra, the NPP when he spoke on radio, Chairman Odeneho said these three water bodies were cleaner before January 7th, 2025.
“These three water samples of water i am holding are from River Oda, Offin and Pra, and it shows how they appeared before January 7 and after January 7 and it is evidently clear that the NDC has worsened the state of our water bodies with galamsey activities since gaining power”, Chairman Odeneho stated.
Accusation:
Chairman Odeneho disclosed that the NDC had taken over the galamsey business since winning power in the 2024 general election.
He mentioned that the NDC party’s youthful elements were mining indiscriminately with careless abandon.
These illegal activities, he complained would spell doom for the people of Ashanti if it goes unchecked.
“My fear is that our main water bodies would become so polluted and ultimately deny us the opportunity to drink from same if these illegal and wicked galamsey activities are not checked”, Chairman COKA posited.
Charge:
The NPP Chairman hopeful has therefore called on the President to take drastic action on his party elements who are currently dabbling in illegal mining and doing so in river bodies.
“I now understand why the Lands Minister at a recent pres conference cried because he was privy to the illegal activities of his own members and the devastation their operations were causing. It is my hope that the President would take decisive action to halt same”. COKA added.
