The hoodlums, who were six in number reportedly, travelled from Obuasi in the Ashanti Region to a community by name ‘Malta’ near Asankragwa in the Western Region, where they robbed their victim at gun-point.

The robbery, reportedly, happened at 6:30 p.m. on March 12, 2026, but the hoodlums managed to escape arrest for some weeks until they were eventually located and apprehended from their hideouts by the Asankrangwa District Police.

Four of the suspects have been identified by the police as Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22. Details of the fifth suspect, who was arrested by some community members, were not given.

Police sources indicate that on the day of the robbery operation, the Chinese national, one Chen Zchao and his younger brother, Yao Chan, were in their spare parts shop when they were suddenly attacked by six strong men in a dangerous fashion.

The hoodlums, armed with two pump-action guns and cutlasses, threatened to spill blood if their victims refused to cooperate with them. They therefore managed to steal money and phones, and fled in a black Toyota Voxy car towards Sefwi Bekwai.

The case was eventually reported to the Asankrangwa District Police in the Western Region, who after weeks of intelligence operations, finally managed to apprehend five out of the six suspects, as efforts are underway to apprehend the last suspect.

All the suspects, the police said, have since confessed to travelling from Obuasi in the Ashanti Region to rob their victims in Asankragwa, adding that police have also retrieved items that would be used as exhibits from the suspects.
